Small change and Wes Anderson
On Monday I’ll begin posting only 5 comics a week.
Also on Monday I’ll begin posting all of Wes Anderson’s movies starting with Bottle Rocket.
Chronicle – 2012
Going over the list of movies out right now was saddening, I’m not adverse to seeing the schlocky Underworld movies (although I was underwhelmed by the logic in the first one) but I wasn’t ready to plunk down more cash to see it in 3-D. That means that Chronicle became the de facto choice.
Chronicle, directed by Josh Trank, is about three teenagers who receive psychic abilities. It makes the whole thing quite fresh and for the most part you’d never think of the term ‘superhero’ unless some snarky guy on the internet mentioned it. The first 2/3 of the movie are more akin to a good movie about teenage isolation, in fact probably better as the relationship between the teens is endearing. The movie is a little slow to start up, the main character’s isolation and his cousin’s philosophic quotes are just a little hard to take. It takes just over 11 minutes to get the powers (something my wife pointed out, perhaps I shouldn’t have told her about writing principles I’d learned from screenwriting books) and the middle of the movie is entertaining and full of good developments. The final portion is quite thrilling, but not without it’s stretching of logic. Thankfully, in the end, only one character is too perfect and only one is a cartoon characterization of an alcoholic (“I’m watching you”).
I found it satisfying and a bit surprising (for a movie released in February). I remember in my day Super Bowl weekend was so bad that me and the staff at the threater I worked at played Risk. Oh yeah, it’s all in found footage style, take that as you will. 3/5, it’s a good watch.
Additional:
The trailer for Battleship left me speechless… until I started guffawing loudly and the theater staff asked me to leave.
Max Landis wrote Chronicle, and when I looked him up I found out that John Landis was his dad, and this in turn lead me to today’s drawing of An American Werewolf in London.
Okay, I just watched an 18 minute video of Max Landis trashing on the Death of Superman, Chronicle now gets 6 stars out of 5 stars. Amazing.
How’s it going?
Hey, added in comics for the weekend, Brokeback Mountain and Network. They were ready but my buffer ran out before my computer was fixed. We’re all set now.
Visitor, any thoughts so far? Questions? Movie recommendations?
I just saw Limitless over the weekend, I liked it.
Site is opened!
Hello! I’m going to be posting a drawing of a movie along with a description every day. Either for the rest of the year or until something amazing happens. We’ll see what happens first. Hopefully you enjoy it.
